Photos or digital previews can support a discussion about your smile goals. Ask what a preview cannot predict, whether proposed procedures are reversible and how changes will be discussed before you agree to treatment.
Define what you are approving in a preview
A design on a photograph may show an ideal appearance, but the procedures needed must be explained separately. Ask whether achieving the shape would require whitening, orthodontics, gum treatment or restorations. Approving a visual design is not the same as consenting to preparation of tooth tissue.
At a try-in, assess normal speech and smiling rather than a close-up photograph alone. Explain your views on length, shade and lip support. Find out when changes remain possible instead of agreeing under deadline pressure. The written plan should connect the goal, recommended method and limitations. A preview supports communication; it cannot show biological healing or the result years later with certainty.
Use a preview as a discussion tool
A digital image or trial helps communicate the goal. Gums, speech, bite and the actual material appearance still need assessment. Before proceeding, clarify which changes can be made and when any irreversible preparation would begin.
