New pain, swelling, repeated bleeding, a fracture or a change in chewing may need assessment before your routine check-up. Record timing and triggers; rapidly increasing swelling or difficulty swallowing needs urgent attention.

Constant or Recurring Toothache

Toothache may appear as short-lived sensitivity or recur throughout the day. If the pain lasts longer than a few days, wakes you up at night or becomes more pronounced during chewing, a dental evaluation is required.

The cause of the pain may be decay, a gum problem, trauma, an old filling or another condition. The exact cause is determined through an examination.

Gum Bleeding

Gum bleeding is sometimes noticed while brushing the teeth. If there is recurring bleeding, gum sensitivity or redness, it is advisable to have it checked.

Gum health is an important part of overall oral health. Therefore, if the bleeding persists for a long time, it should not be neglected.

Swelling of the Face or Gums

Swelling of the gums or face may be a sign of an underlying infection or inflammation. In such a situation, a dental evaluation is required rather than attempting to treat it yourself.

The swelling may be accompanied by pain or noticed on its own.

Fractured, Cracked or Loose Teeth

When a fracture, crack or loosening of a tooth is noticed, the check-up should not be delayed. This may occur after trauma, but can also result from old fillings, chewing forces or teeth clenching.

The extent of the damage to the tooth can only be assessed through an examination.

Sensitivity to Hot, Cold or Sweet

Sensitivity triggered by hot, cold or sweet foods may be short-lived. However, if the sensitivity lasts a long time, gradually increases or turns into pain, a dental check-up is important.

The cause of the sensitivity may be enamel erosion, gum recession, decay or old restorations.

Bad Breath and an Unpleasant Taste

Persistent bad breath or an unpleasant taste in the mouth can arise for various reasons. Gum problems, decay, deposits on the surface of the tongue or issues related to oral hygiene should be evaluated.

If this symptom has become persistent, it is useful to have it checked.
