A first dental visit aims to identify the reason for your concern and explain suitable options. Travelling from abroad does not mean treatment must start on the first day. Oral health, expectations and any necessary investigations are considered together.

Make your own priority visible in the discussion
Relieving pain, chewing comfortably and changing appearance are different priorities. Tell the clinician which matters first. Health findings and aesthetic goals can be discussed separately; the first visit should connect them in an understandable plan.
Before leaving, summarise the sequence in your own words: which procedure first, which review next and when another decision is needed? Ask to see which tooth each recommendation concerns. Mark uncertainties and have them explained. Confirm language support beforehand if required. A short trip does not mean you need to agree to a procedure you have not understood; allow decision time as part of the visit.

What should you understand before leaving?
Ask which treatment is proposed for each tooth and why. Discuss alternatives, the possible consequences of no treatment, risks and any irreversible stages.
A written plan should explain estimated costs, appointment order, healing intervals and follow-up. An estimate based on photographs may change after examination. Ask for plain-language explanations or language support when needed, and allow time to consider your decision.
Will every treatment detail be final at the first visit?
Not necessarily. Further imaging, gum treatment or another assessment may be needed. Ask which parts of the plan are confirmed and which depend on additional findings.
